This week

April 19th, 2010

The movie was amazing! Action, adventure and what a cast – all of these things really made it great. I hope you enjoyed it. I sent permission slips to all the schools on Friday for our meeting at CESA 11 on May 6th – please sort out transport and get your slips back to your facilitator! This week and next we will not meet on Wednesday – I have to chaperone field trips so you can work on your next big project which is your original myth. Not many days left, so make sure if you need extra credit you read on your own form the PJ series! Question of the week: In these final weeks of school – especially seniors – who do you need to thank? Why?

Clash of the Titans

April 14th, 2010

A few changes have been made due to Charlie and Telea not being able to make it. We will view The Clash of the Titans in Siren at Timber’s as a class at 11:00 a.m. You should individually critique it in a five paragraph essay using specific examples. A sample thesis might read as follows: The movie, The Clash of the Titans, was horrendous because of the weak special effects, poor acting, and predictable plot. This is your assignment for Monday.

Question of the week: After viewing – What part of the movie was the best or the worst?

I am emailing each of you a zip file as we are beginning to branch out from Greek Mythology into World stories.  I would remind you that your Superpower’s project is due next week and you might also begin researching a myth from your heritage / culture.   Question of the week:  What cultures interest you most?  Why?

Clash of the Titans

March 1st, 2010

This week we will look at another hero and also how far we have come in special effects.   I love the owl and the skeletons best.

Question of the Week:  Perseus is a flawed character – what are his weaknesses?  Compare Hercules to Perseus and Percy Jackson.  How do each of these characters overcome misfortune to define himself a hero?  Explain.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

February 23rd, 2010

In addition to your power points on the main Olympians, this week we are off to the movies to see what the directors of Harry Potter have done with our lovely Percy.  Below write a review of the movie as your question of the week.  So if you think it was awful – write that and support it with specific reasons why – use scenes to support your opinion.

Heroes

February 16th, 2010

This week as we read about and watch heroes like Hercules and his labours,  and Jason in his search for the golden fleece – I would expect you to be able to further define what it means to be a true hero.

Question of the week:  In your own words explain what it means to be a hero.  Further the definition by choosing specific people you feel are heroes and what is it that he / she  does to earn that title.

Powerpoints on the main gods / goddesses are due Thursday the 18th!We will be viewing The Lightning Thief next week – we need to choose a day that works for everyone and Thursday the 25th is out.
